PRINTMAKING

RESIDENCY AT PROYECTO ‘ACE IN BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA

During a monthlong printmaking residency at Proyecto ‘Ace, I developed a portfolio of Photolithography prints that began with photographs I took throughout the city and primarily at the beautiful, architecturally rich Recoleta Cemetery. Transforming these photographs into black and white, I then printed them out to work with as collage material. With entirely new compositions, these photographs took on a new life as digital aluminum plate images that we inked up and printed on a traditional printing press. Experimenting with layering these architectural images with turquoise clouds, the series developed into a serene juxtaposition of stark, angled infrastructure framing goddess-like figures in heavenly spaces- a collection that I call “The Sky Is A Goddess.”

TRANSLATION PRINTS FROM “MATRIX OF A MOMENT” INSTALLATION ART PROJECT

In a process that also began with photography, the primary subject of this “MATRIX” series was an installation art project I created called “Matrix of a Moment” (Check it out here), which featured an infinite mosaic of mirrors, black and white painted shadows, and three dimensional elements that created an immersive optical illusion that played with depth, shadows and light. Transforming these abstract photographs taken in various corners of the space into black and white, I then created relief plates by laser-cutting the black content of the images into plexiglas. Using a traditional relief printmaking process with these plates, I created a series of prints I call “Matrices” that have become images entirely independent of the original installation.
